Our first HK Vlog!
After a lovely flight on Ethiopian Airlines we arrive at Hong Kong International Airport late in the evening. We took a taxi to our hotel in Mong Kok for our first night. If you want to take a taxi from the airport it’s super easy. Taxis are colour coded for their different destinations.
- Red taxis. Red taxis operate throughout most of Hong Kong, except for Tung Chung Road on Lantau Island and on the entire south side of Lantau Island.
- Green taxis. Green taxis only service the New Territories.
- Blue taxis. Blue taxis only operate on Lantau Island.
We took a red coloured taxi to go to Mong Kok.
The next day we headed to Fa Yuen Street Market, which is actually located inside a building – so I don’t know why it’s called a street market but I guess it has the same vibe. We had a traditional Hong Kong style breakfast of congee at Mui Kee Congee.
Afterwards we headed to meet Haeppy‘s Dad, and he tells us about the meaning behind Hong Kong’s name. Hong means ‘Fragrant’ and Kong means ‘ Harbour’ – so Hong Kong means ‘Fragrant Harbour’.
The more you know!
The most exciting part of the day was back in Mong Kok where we went to Sim City to go camera lens shopping and shopping for our new drone the Inspire 2!
We got a Canon 70-200mm F2.8L IS II for a super cheap price by trading in our Canon 70-200mm F4L IS USM.
We also got an Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens (Silver) for very cheap too, even though it looked brand new. This lens was for our Inspire 2 we were going to buy next.
Inside Sim City, is On The Go – a drone and aerial hobby shop. They gave us a great deal on an Inspire 2 Premium Combo. This was during the time when only Premium Combos were available. And no extra batteries 🙁 that was a hard time.
We got the drone and we were very happy (especially Xander)
The next mission was to take an Uber to our next hotel, the Ovolo Southside Hotel!
Check it out in Vlog 2!
